Nick Martin composer recordings — Blue Luminaire: Terroir
Terroir is the debut album of Blue Luminaire, Nick Martin’s ensemble project, released on Bella Union in 2022. Paul Morley called it “deliciously sparse and exquisitely controlled” in The Guardian. Simon Smith described it as “a stunning album” in Higher Plain Music. Furthermore, Andrew Mellor praised it as “an engrossing listen” in Seismograf. Consequently, Terroir remains the most widely reviewed of all his releases, and the one most closely associated with Blue Luminaire.
Clare O’Connell — Light Flowing, NMC Recordings
Cellist Clare O’Connell commissioned and premiered Vocalise by Nick Martin, releasing it on her album Light Flowing on NMC Recordings in 2025. Furthermore, the album received four stars in BBC Music Magazine. O’Connell’s recording of Vocalise represents one of the most significant Nick Martin composer recordings of recent years. Additionally, a second version for solo cello and cello ensemble exists and awaits recording.
Trio Kimi — Bittersweet, Dacapo Records
Trio Kimi recorded Bittersweet by Nick Martin for mezzo soprano, accordion and marimba on Dacapo Records. Furthermore, this release brought his music to audiences across Scandinavia and beyond. Moreover, Bittersweet sets texts by Sappho and Juan Ramón Jiménez, performed in English and Spanish. Consequently, the Dacapo recording remains a key document of his vocal output.
Tamsin Waley-Cohen and Manchester Camerata
Tamsin Waley-Cohen and Manchester Camerata premiered Maternal, Nick Martin’s violin concerto, in September 2025. Furthermore, a recording of Maternal is planned for release in 2027 or 2028. Moreover, Daniel Pioro has recorded and performed Kołysanka with Manchester Camerata, with release planned. Consequently, these forthcoming Nick Martin composer recordings will represent his largest-scale works to date.
Forthcoming recordings — 2027 and 2028
Planned releases include works performed by Trió Sól and Tamsin Waley-Cohen with Manchester Camerata. Furthermore, works for string trio and violin concerto are under consideration for release. Moreover, these recordings will appear on leading labels including NMC, Orchid Classics and Bella Union. Therefore, the coming years will significantly expand his recorded catalogue. In addition, world premieres of Diluendo, Daughter and Ingenting are scheduled for 2026 and 2027, with recordings to follow.
