Bio

Nick Martin is a composer, originally from the UK, but has been based in Copenhagen for over a decade. Martin has worked together with ensembles, orchestras and soloists, such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Danish Radio Vocal Ensemble, Copenhagen Phil, The Nordic String Quartet, Daniel Pioro & Bjarke Mogensen. His music has been performed throughout the UK, Nordic countries, and North America, in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Barbican, and the Tate Modern, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Danish Radio P2 and Deutschlandradio Kultur. In June 2022, ‘Bittersweet’, recorded by Kimi Ensemble, was released on Dacapo Records. Martin’s project ‘Blue Luminaire’, released their debut album, ‘Terroir’, on Bella Union in August 2022. ‘Kołysanka’ recorded by Daniel Pioro & Katherine Tinker, was released in November 2022, on Platoon.

Martin holds a bachelor’s in composition from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where his teacher was Simon Bainbridge, and a master’s degree in composition from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where his teachers were Bent Sørensen and Hans Abrahamsen. Between 2019-2023, Martin taught composition at the Rhythmical Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
